![]() While No Dachi Samurai have a devastating charge, but have very low armor. ![]() Or look at Kantana Samurai vs No Dachi, the Katana Samurai are very effective in close combat against infantry, and can serve as part of your main line. Bow Warrior Monks serve as effective snipers with their super long range, but very small unit size. ![]() ![]() Bow Samurai are very effective at piercing armor, but have less units. Bow ashigaru have the most men per unit, but shoot low armor piercing arrows. Similarly, if we were to look at bow units. For instance, in Shogun 2, Yari Ashigaru are brilliant at holding the line in Yari wall, Yari Samurai are fast moving anti-cavalry, while Naginta Samurai are heavy, resilient infantry that are brilliant at holding the enemy down. In a way, Shogun 2's unit variety has some of the most tactical depth in the franchise, and while although 3 Kingdoms has a lot of different units on paper, from a tactical level, 3 Kingdoms has some of the worst unit variety in the whole franchise.įundamentally, I would argue that a unit has a tactical use, if there is a reason other than cost to chose it. But is it really that bad? I'd actually argue no. Shogun 2 has always been accused of having terrible unit variety.
